Let’s Talk…. or in my case ramble, a series of thoughts.....
Sleep walking while I’m Wide Awake, that's a thing, right?
And why It’s ok to hibernate (it actually can be productive).
It's January and I want to hide at least for a day or two. Drawing inward is part of life's natural cycle. Brain Fog, fatigue and subsequent miracle breakthroughs, sleep and soup, bone broth and spices to warm the body and soul. Blankets and Netflix, naps and yoga, vision boards and creative explosions of the mind along with moments of extreme clarity
(keep a notebook handy to jot down creative ideas when they pop up).
December, an extroverts season of parties and social gatherings naturally give way to January where the landscapes are bleak, the dark nights are longer, the frigid and dry days are shorter and the intense cold inevitably gives in to the invitations of your subconscious to take a break, to hibernate and draw inward. If you are anything like I am, even answering the phone during the dark days of winter seems too much to ask. Too early and I’m not awake, too late in the afternoon and I need to rest. Observing myself falling into my winter slump, tired and useless while simultaneously motivated by making plans for the year, setting intentions and brainstorming, soul searching and mapping out my WanderLIST and last but certainly not least, setting goals on ways to be of service to others. The Winter slump also comes with drudgery and maybe even self doubt. Did you know that the last Monday in January is referred to as Blue January because it is statistically the most depressing day of the year? For some reason reading this brought me comfort because life comes in seasons and like every season, this too will pass. Before I started reading up on January stats and mental health, I knew I needed to seek some sunshine and I knew I needed it now, that's why without evening knowing this little piece of information, in my time of hibernation, I heard the call of sunshine and warmth and decided to teach yoga in Jamaica at the end of January. So buried in my hole aka my new LuvSac, just like that, on a whim, it’s done. Hosting my own Yoga Retreat in Sunny Fort Lauderdale, Florida has been brewing for months in the back of my sub conscious so laptop in hand, pajamas on all day, a VRBO marathon and just like that it’s booked and, wait for it......nearly sold out!. So this time of quiet introspection and seeming laziness is really prime time for planting seeds. These seeds that are planted will come into harvest and just like nature, will bring forth the fullness of life. Life in all it's glory, sunshine, flowers and vibrant color. This wasted season is really not a waste at all but maybe the most valuable season of the year. So when you sense yourself drawing in, put the do not disturb on your phone, make a cup of hot tea, take a bubble bath and light candles, use massage oils to hydrate and warm the skin, roll out your yoga mat and practice pranayama to warm the body and increase circulation and watch as the seeds of your subconscious are planted giving way to a beautiful abundant harvest that produces the most delicious fruit all year long.
Love and Light
